Kim, I hear you about PC… Blech. The reason why I do not venture beyond Snow Leopard is because I do not wish to rebuy all my software that no longer run beyond OS In fact, much of it is not longer offered anymore. Great, huh? If one does not work, try the other.

In all cases I have tried, when you use the explicit syntax wherever access to a Network drive is required, it should work. All the above works from Mac OS The crazy thing is that I cannot even ping the smb I can ping the Mac but I cannot connect to it. I use it all the time. I have Mavericks My Macbook pro could see the shared device but not connect.
I tried RDC 2. What should I do? On Mac OS Mavericks is just focking broken. This is a great tip! I remembered having some difficulties with SL to Vista. But Mavericks and Windows works awesome and flawless! But for any receiver who is in the world of Apple, this is a great way to bulk send a […]. I hope this helps. I have been having a nightmare trying to link my Lion OSX Like Marshal, I am facing the same problem and not found any solution.
I am using same login name on both machines. Able to see the shared folders on the Windows machine but not able to go into them. From Windows, I am able to read the shared Mac folders and even write to them. It is visible but not accessible.
I have been using this method for many years, most recently with a new It was working in December. Now, however, perhaps after the Microsoft security update yesterday, it does not work from Vista, XP or 7.
Connect to Shared Folder on Windows 10 from Mac OS X
I have tried Panther, Leopard and Lion and server and I hit a problem with all regarding file permissions. Any clues of how to solve — I have searched the internet for an answer. Having the same problem as Chuck. Large files or large amount of smaller files trying to copy to a Windows share and get the same error. Grab some large files and copy to that Windows folder. Hope you could help me.

Enable SMB to Share Files Between Your Mac and Windows
Yeah but be warned!!!! Lion On the Windows side, I highly recommend mapping a network drive so that you can access the Mac without having to reenter the IP and credentials on each connection. Thank you once again for all of this great advice and quickly responding.
Are the 2 connected to the same network? If they are, then follow the steps in the article and you're golden. I apologize for my ignorance. No, a direct connection will not work in this instance. You either need to connect to a router or make your Windows PC connect to your Mac wirelessly through an adhoc connection. Thanks for all the help here.
I am a new Mac Pro convert from Windows 7.
Connect to the Mac File Share from a Windows PC
Can I perform this process with the above procedure and or do you have another outline? Thanks in advance. What are "Wave files"? If you managed to set up the network as shown above, your computers will be linked and will appear in the network. If you have file sharing enabled in Windows, you will be able to transfer files over. I got a problem for once, i can access my laptop, it's got windows 7, but i can access my mac from my laptop. Any help? Hey, my System Preferences window doesn't have nearly as many options as yours, and so there is no "sharing". The closest I've got is "Network".
Very helpful post. Worked perfectly for me. I followed your instructions with my Mac with OS Not much of a computer geek here - this sharing of files doesn't go beyond the computers on my home wireless network, right?
Migrate your files from a Mac to a PC
My wireless network is secure. How can I share the mac files if the windows OS is installed in the sample laptop. The scenario is I have a mac pro book and I have installed both the mac and windows OS in that. I guess you forgot to mention one important step that is "Select the user account checkbox to On state" after selecting Share files and folders with SMB before clicking Done. I'm not able to login until this checkbox is selected. Also is it possible to use Sharing Only account to access a folder from windows?
Since the user accounts shown below share files and folders with SMB contains only NON sharing accounts, it may not be possible. But is there any other solution please? Hi all, I'm sorry that I haven't responded to the comments quicker. To those who are having problems, I suggest that you re-check to see if you are within the same network as your Windows counterparts and also, fix the access privileges.
But, i can't make the mac visible to the windows machines. Excellent and easy way to share files, went through a few other tutorials before reaching this one and by far the best. Thanks Jackson!!!

When i get back out of town to my ancient quicksilver g4 with tiger on it i will let you know if it works. I don't have Tiger to mess around with. You could easily turn on Windows Sharing in Tiger but you'll need to enable Windows Access on an account on your Mac running Tiger, meaning that you'll need to log in from the Windows box.

If it finds your server, you'll get prompted to enter your network credentials - by default, your Windows username and password:. Once you're in, you'll get to choose which shared folder you want to mount on your Mac. In this case, we're going to choose the "PC - My Docs" share:.
And you're done! If you've allowed reading and writing to the shared folder in Windows, you can drag and drop and save files to it as if it were any disk. This technique comes in very handy for backing up your Mac's data to a PC, too - just set your Mac's backup software destination to the Windows drive. Also, using Hamachi , you can also do this over the internet when you're away from home.
